Jane Anderson Wood - 1952 to 2026
In memory of Jane Anderson Wood, who has passed away unexpectedly.
Jane took part in the Cranbrook Art Show in 2018, exhibiting her beautiful sensitive watercolours, full of atmosphere. She also painted in oils.
She was a postgraduate student of the Slade Printmaking Department and for several years ran her own studio for stone lithography in London where she worked with many artists and publishers. She made the natural transition and began painting in watercolour after moving to Surrey with her family. She was a painter and teacher working in water based media, best known for her landscapes and waterscapes. For Jane, teaching was a creative and enriching activity, she had many years of experience in art schools, adult education and private classes.
Jane’s paintings were often studio based, where she would develop the carefully organised and delicate washes and glazes which are so characteristic of her work, mixing traditional approaches with contemporary and experimental ideas. She also enjoyed painting en plein air, in particular with the Surrey Hills Plein Air Painters.
She was a very popular, inspirational teacher, sharing her talent in her Workshops for Dorking Group of Artists and Molesey Art Society. She ran painting holidays in France at L’Age Baston.
Jane exhibited regularly in groups and as an individual, both locally in Surrey and also at the Royal Watercolour Society, the Society of Women Artists, the Mall Galleries and Bankside Gallery. She was also the Chairman of the Dorking Group of Artists.
