‘Reflecting in Light’ Series 2006-19
This series of work represents an exploration into our sense of location and personal environment.
The sense of space interprets and develops our relationship with the world. The main ‘actor’ in the formulation of each scene is light. My work captures the quality, the strength, the time of day and year of light as it cements moods and indicates the depth of feeling.
My first interaction with the production of an artwork is the atmosphere of the location. Once chosen, this is then framed and ‘stilled’ by a photograph. It is important that what emotional insight has been captured during this observation retains its power through the printing process. The painting remains absolutely honest to the original framed image: there is no cropping from photograph to final painting.
These series represents an exploration of how light affects the way we respond to and interpret our world.
